Before Silicon Valley became the global center of innovation, it was known by a different name: the Valley of Heart’s Delight. This name was given to the Santa Clara Valley, celebrated for its fertile soil, vast orchards, and blooming fruit trees.

In the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries, the valley attracted immigrants from all corners of the world. Chinese immigrants were among the first to arrive and build their lives here. From the earliest laborers to today’s professionals, the Chinese heritage community has been a significant part of our region’s history and growth. Today, a new generation of immigrants continues this legacy, more diverse than ever in their pursuits of happiness in the valley.

The Society of Heart’s Delight honors both the history of our region and the deep legacy of the Chinese heritage community on this land. We continue that legacy by telling our stories, building a more connected and inclusive community, and contributing to a shared, pluralistic Silicon Valley.
